If you have heartburn you know how bad it can be. In fact, heartburn can feel so severe that you’ll think you’re experiencing a heart attack. However, there are different forms of heartburn that will affect each person differently.

One form of heartburn is the one that attacks you during summer months. This form of heartburn usually attacks you when you eat fatty foods while you’re in the heat of the summer. To help ease away this form of heartburn you should stay away from foods that are considered acidic.

This is probably the worst form of heartburn because it disturbs your sleep and keeps you up all night in pain. The reason heartburn at night occurs is because when you lay down your esophagus becomes too relaxed which makes it much easier for stomach acid to travel upward into your esophagus and cause problems. Another reason heartburn attacks occur at night is because while you’re trying to sleep you less saliva circulating in your mouth. With the lack of saliva it increases the chances of heartburn to increase and worsen.

Finally, the worst form of heartburn is GERD which occurs when you have too many heartburn attacks during the week. Heartburn is common among a lot of people as many people experience it in their lifetime. However, when you begin experiencing heartburn several times during the week it is then considered to be GERD.

When it comes to GERD you’ll experience more than just heartburn. You’ll also experience various symptoms such as asthma, wheezing, and other problems like halitosis. With that being said, that’s why it’s important to treat the first sign of heartburn you get so you can avoid even worse symptoms.

These antacids can be bought over the counter at your local pharmacy. If you find that these antacids don’t work for you then make a visit to your doctor and see if they’ll prescribe you a medication to relieve your symptoms.

The medication your doctor prescribes you will most likely be a PPI that helps inhibit stomach acid production. These medications can cause side effects if taken for an extended period of time so it’s a good idea to adapt certain lifestyle changes that will help keep your symptoms under control for a long time.
